Training & Teaching
Training
Louis has been leading and producing worship for 30 years, from intimate settings to leading and producing national events with thousands of people singing God’s praise. He has experienced what it’s like going it alone, with a small band, and with a 16-piece band and choir. He has worked in thousands of churches and venues – some with good acoustics, and many with terrible sound treatment. He has worked with no gear…and a ton of it. Being a worship pastor, vocalist, musician, arranger and producer he understands worship and worship production from many angles, and has been able to train worship leaders, musicians and support crew in a variety of topics, ranging from theological to practical and technical. He has presented seminars (just speaking), practical workshops (with musicians) and week-long worship schools (with musicians and artists in multiple forms of art).
Topics he covers:
- God’s nature as a creative Artist – art in the Bible (from Genesis to Revelations)
- The liturgical flow of worship
- The heart, posture and attitude of worship artists
- The difference between performance, ministry and worship art
- Understanding the worship calling
- The role of the arts in church and missions
- An understanding of excellence – when is worship music “good enough”
- Dealing with insecurity and pride – how criticism and compliments shape us
- Arranging music for worship (yes, it’s unique!)
- Creative Writing and directing your creative flow
- Producing a worship set (and a worship event/service/conference)
- The dynamics and flow of worship music
- Musical textures and how they shape songs
- Understanding frequencies, e.q, reverb and delay
- Song selection, key selection, lead-vocal selection
- Vocal production, vocal mixing, microphone placement and styles for worship
- Small band, no band, big band – how to adapt for your worship context
- Stage training – the dimensions of live worship
- Tech aids – multitracks, loops, pads, multi-media
- How worship translates from stage to audience, and from stage to the mixing desk
- Setting up a worship mix and dealing with room acoustics
